Big open day at the Horst fire department: games, fun and technology!

The Horst Volunteer Fire Department has big plans! Every two years she invites people to an open day, and this year it's happening again. On Saturday, June 21st, the guard on Elmshorner Straße will open its doors to young and old from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A real festival for the whole family is offered there, which promises lots of fun and interesting facts. A highlight will be the vehicle and technology exhibition, which includes, among other things, an impressive turntable ladder from Elmshorn. Stacks of boxes and a bouncy castle await the little guests - action is guaranteed! There will also be tours in an emergency vehicle through the village, which will create a real fire brigade atmosphere with flashing lights and sirens. Visitors can also look forward to regional delicacies: the food ranges from currywurst and fries to homemade food such as cakes and soft drinks.

Water features and information stands

A special treat are the water games, organized by the youth fire department, which are sure to delight the kids. An information stand from the first responder group will also be part of the event and they are also celebrating their anniversary. The Horst fire department's emergency services, around 70 in number, are currently looking after the safety of the growing community in the south of the Steinburg district and have stationed six emergency vehicles at their station. This also includes a hygiene trailer from the Horst-Herzhorn office and an emergency power trailer that provides light and operation in the event of a power outage.

The regional operations management also has its base on Elmshorner Straße in order to be able to coordinate operations, especially in severe weather situations. The Horst fire department also provides a professional radio operator group in the event of major damage, while the youth fire department prepares young people for emergency service and takes part in events at district and state level. Public relations is very important here, and numerous events such as Easter bonfires and lantern runs are organized.

A look beyond the borders of Horst

Nevertheless, the Horst Volunteer Fire Department is not the only one that is active in its community. There are also exciting developments beyond the borders of Horst: The German Fire Brigade Association (DFV) is planning a large number of specialist and networking events in Germany for 2025. The activities that feuerwehrverband.de puts together cover a wide spectrum and offer, among other things, online training courses and various congresses.

Specialist seminars and competitions are an integral part and help to train and further develop the firefighters' knowledge and skills. The DFV also enables exchange between the different fire departments, which is invaluable for the fire service. From the German championships to the fire safety education forum, there is a lot on offer here. The children don't miss out either, for example at the “Children in the Fire Department” hands-on day, which will take place on September 27, 2025.

As a strong community, it is important to promote the events and awaken a fascination for the fire service among young people. This shows once again that the fire brigade is not only an important part of security in our communities, but also ensures cohesion and community. So visit the Horst Volunteer Fire Department on June 21st - it's definitely worth it!
