Rain or sun? On an exploration tour through North Frisia!
On October 24, 2025, the SoVD Elmshorn organized an exciting adventure: a trip to the Nordstrand peninsula. Despite the pouring rain that accompanied the departure at 9:30 a.m. from Carpet Kibek in Elmshorn, the members were not discouraged. The bus route had to be changed a little due to construction work in downtown Elmshorn, but that wasn't a big deal. The journey first led to the impressive Eider Barrier and then to Tönning, where the participants were able to gain a first impression of the North Frisian landscape.
However, the weather challenges continued: At lunch in the Kirchspielkrug in Mildstedt at 12 p.m. the weather was no better. Nevertheless, the travelers didn't let the cabbage buffet and the delicacies that followed spoil their enjoyment. At 1:30 p.m. we continued on a tour of the Nordstrand peninsula. A nice tour guide who joined the travelers in Mildstedt informed the group about the special features of the region.
Walk at Norderhafen
When the weather finally got a little better, the group took the opportunity for a short walk on the dike at Norderhafen. A beautiful moment that gave participants the opportunity to experience the raw beauty of the North Sea up close. Other stations such as the port of Strucklandungshörn, from where the ferries to the island of Pellworm leave, and the Süderhafen offered a varied insight into the maritime culture of North Frisia.
The coffee break with cake in the Kirchspielkrug turned out to be a welcome refreshment before we went back to Elmshorn around 5 p.m. The bus returned at around 6:30 p.m. with happy faces and lots of new impressions. The participants left the bus satisfied and in a good mood while already making plans for the next excursion.
North Frisia in focus
For anyone interested in North Frisia, the region is a true gem. Health resorts such as Bredstedt, Leck and Niebüll invite you to relax and explore. Dagebüll in particular is known for its “green beach” on the North Sea coast, which is ideal for a sunny day and offers direct access to the islands of Föhr and Amrum. If you want to experience even more, Schlüttsiel is the perfect starting point for boat tours to the Wadden Sea National Park and the Halligen. Niebüll also offers a train connection to the island of Sylt, which is ideal for day trips.
These diverse offerings and of course the region's attractive nature make North Frisia a popular destination for travelers from near and far. One thing is certain: interest in North Frisia is high and there is always something to discover! For more information about this fascinating region, it is worth taking a look at the Nordsee Tourismus website.
