Rostock Griffins: Record game against Elmshorn with a big stadium party!

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Ostseestadion in Rostock will be the scene of a spectacular event that will captivate the region. The Rostock Griffins, who are currently second in the 2nd Bundesliga, will host the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates in the highlight game of the season. The Griffins are not only aiming for victory, but also for a new attendance record in their league. NDR reports that over 10,000 tickets have already been sold and the goal of 11,111 fans is firmly in sight. The current attendance record of over 10,000 spectators also comes from the Griffins last year.

The game starts at 6 p.m., but fans are invited to stop by a big tailgate party on the north forecourt starting at 2:30 p.m. A colorful program is offered here that includes American food, live bands as well as cheerleaders and mascots. The event is presented by OstseeSparkasse and is considered the biggest game in the history of the German Football League 2. In addition, the stadium will open at 4:00 p.m., a pregame show will start at 5:00 p.m., with musical performances by the Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium choir, which will perform anthems from Germany and the USA.

Fan support is crucial

The Rostock Griffins started the season optimally with a record of two wins and one defeat and see themselves as favorites for promotion to the 1st German Football League. The importance of fan support is strongly emphasized by the players and management. “The atmosphere in the stadium is crucial for our performance,” said a club representative. The Griffins are therefore hoping for numerous fans who will loudly support their team. MV Sport adds that the sport itself is becoming increasingly popular in Germany, which is underlined by the increasing number of viewers and interest in the NFL.

In the meantime, enthusiasm for American football has developed strongly in Germany. Thanks to regular NFL games in cities like Munich and Frankfurt, the sport is well on its way to becoming a significant part of the German sports landscape. There are already around 19 million NFL fans in the country, which shows that the Mexican and German football cultures are moving closer together. The Super Bowl is now an event that is watched by millions in this country - most recently by 2.12 million people in Germany. RND emphasizes that Germany is considered the number one growth market for the NFL, which will also be visible in the planned further games until 2029.

The Rostock Griffins and their supporters are looking forward to the game on June 14th. It won't just be about the win against the Fighting Pirates, but also about the shared experience and the attempt to write an unforgettable chapter in the history of Rostock American football. We'll be excited to see whether the Griffins manage to break their own attendance record and attract fans to the stadium in droves!
