Seniors learn to use tablets: successful training in Elmshorn!

Elmshorn, Deutschland - In Elmshorn, 20 seniors cordially found together to take part in a special tablet training. Under the direction of Stephanie Meggers, the handling of iPads is explained step by step. From switching on to basic settings to navigation through apps and use of the Internet - the participants are given everything in a practical way. The local newspaper is also not left out: the seniors learn how to read the epaper online. SHZ not only intended for subscribers to the newspaper, but is open to all interested parties.

humor is also very important during the two -hour training: questions about functions and handling are lively discussed. Nicola Schulz-Bödeker, the coordinator for the district and senior citizens' work, has organized this initiative to facilitate senior citizens to get started with the digital world. But why is that so important? Education and digital skills are crucial for the social participation of older people, as well as the BundesseKretariat for seniors . Digitization enables access to important services such as online banking, doctor's appointment bookings and video calls.

together in the digital future

The Federal Ministry of the Bundesseieren makes it clear that all older people, regardless of gender, level of education or place of residence, should be given the opportunity to learn digital skills. The "Digital Pact Age" and the "Digital Engel Plus" project are only two examples of what support can look like on site. Mobile advisory teams provide seniors with the necessary knowledge to use digital media confidently and thus take part in social life more active.

But not only in Elmshorn you rely on such innovative training. The idea for training senior citizens is also to be spread in other cities in the Pinneberg district. This commitment corresponds to the goals of the Foundation Digital Opportunities, which with its guideline "Digital Skills for Older People" offers practical help so that seniors can build trust in their own skills. Digital opportunities value that the competent handling of digital media is accessible to everyone.

A look into the future

For September and November, further training courses are already scheduled. In view of the progressive digitization, the participation of seniors in such programs is becoming increasingly important. As early as April 2025, the ESF-Plus funding program "Education and Commitment for a lifetime" will be initiated by new projects for the development of learning and commitment opportunities for people over the age of 60. The future looks rosy - and the Elmshorner seniors can also be proud to have taken a step into the digital world!
