Uetersens Schützenfest 2025: Grief overshadows celebrations!

In just over a week the time has come: the shooting festival of the Uetersener Schützenguild from 1545 will take place from June 20th to 22nd, 2025. But this year the traditional festival is overshadowed by a sad event. The unexpected death of Sabine Thomsen, the wife of the reigning Emperor Peter Thomsen, has left many members of the Rifle Guild and citizens in deep mourning. It is already clear that the course of the festival will be adjusted to take this loss into account, as is the case shz.de reported.

Unfortunately, the traditional parade and accompanying brass music will be canceled from the celebrations this year. The planned children's festival on Sunday will also not take place, which puts the entire event in a more subdued setting. However, there are some program items that are being carried out as planned. The start is scheduled for Friday, June 20th, where the club shooting begins at 6 p.m. on the Gildeplatz on the Große Twiete. Danilo Huste is available for registration via email.

Mourning and tradition combined

The proclamation ceremony will take place in the Haselauer Landhaus on Saturday, June 21st. Admission is from 6 p.m., while the proclamation should take place around 7 p.m. It is interesting that Peter Thomsen, who will not be taking part for personal reasons, continues to play a prominent role in the club's life. Many guild members are expected to be present, but the mood will certainly be dominated by mourning for Sabine Thomsen.

Sunday, June 22nd, opens with a new morning pint starting at 10 a.m. on Gildeplatz. The new king will be the focus here. Traditional refreshments such as bockwurst and bottled beer should not be missing. Table reservations for this brunch are possible and those interested can contact the email addresses todoh@gmx.de or tischreservierung@uetersenerschuetzengilde.de. The tickets cost 10 euros and can be paid on site.

The roots of the shooting festivals

Guests and citizens can also look forward to an event next week as part of the traditional shooting festival, which has its origins in the Middle Ages. Shooting festivals are folk festivals that are closely linked to the shooting brotherhoods, as the information on wikipedia.org present. Derived from the vigilante groups, they are part of local traditions and regional customs and take place particularly in Lower Saxony. These festivities not only serve to determine the shooting king or queen, but also to promote community cohesion.

Due to the regional diversity and the different traditions, these festivals are valued by numerous citizens and families. They not only strengthen the sense of community, but also bring a piece of history and culture back into life. This shows that the Uetersen Rifle Guild remains a bastional force in the region even in dark times.
