Fire brigade saves thousands of fish: Riepsbach successfully freed!

Today, November 15, 2025, there is some exciting news in Schleswig-Holstein and beyond. In Lütjensee, for example, the fire brigade carried out an impressive rescue operation in which they freed thousands of small fish from the Riepsbach. The water drain to Lütjensee was blocked by leaves and branches, which caused great distress to the small animals. Around 30 firefighters were on duty and were able to clear 80 meters of the stream. The majority of the fish survived this strenuous operation, which of course made the rescuers happy. NDR reports.

In Geesthacht, however, the mood changes. Here the council decided that the insolvent hospital should be retained. The hope is to find a new operator who is willing to maintain all specialist departments. The situation is tense because the hospital had already filed for bankruptcy in September 2024, and a new self-administration procedure has been underway since the end of October 2025. The emergency room and obstetrics center are threatened with closures, which concerns citizens in the region.

Unrest in Lübeck and Kiel

Police work in Lübeck is also a topic of conversation. A driver was stopped there who was traveling at less than 5 km/h. The strong smell of cannabis and wearing sunglasses at night were additional evidence that alerted the officers. The woman attempted to hit a police officer but was temporarily taken into custody. Such incidents raise questions not only about road safety, but also general safety in the city. NDR

In Kiel, around 1,700 residents had to leave their homes when a 500 kg American-made World War II bomb was discovered in the Suchsdorf district. The defusing began at 11:10 a.m. and the duration of the work remained uncertain. This was the eighth defusing of an unexploded bomb in Kiel this year, which underlines the urgent need for such measures.
