Construction site chaos in Schleswig-Holstein: road users beware!

Today, October 7, 2025, there are again numerous construction sites and traffic closures in Schleswig-Holstein that are keeping drivers on their toes. The various measures affect both motorways and federal highways and provide an interesting overview of what is happening in road traffic. In total, the country's road network covers an impressive 9,874 kilometers, which highlights the importance of well-preserved transport routes for the region.

Current information on construction sites and traffic closures is available daily and offers a comprehensive insight into the situation on the roads, especially on the central motorways such as the A1, A7, A20, A21 and A23. The KN Online reports on specific challenges that road users face today and in the coming days.

Construction sites on the highways

From tomorrow, October 9th, drivers on the A1 should be careful at the Reinfeld junction. This will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to marking work. In addition, the new bridge at the Bargteheide junction is due to be built by October 15th, although the overpass from the A21 to the B404 has not been open since September 26th. From October 25th, the A1 will be completely closed at the Bargteheide intersection for over 30 hours, and traffic chaos will be alleviated by color-coded diversions.

Various renovation work is currently taking place on the A7. From Bordesholm to the Bordesholm triangle, drivers have to prepare for diversions until October 8th, and on October 14th the section between Rendsburg/Büdelsdorf and the Rendsburg motorway junction will also be closed. There will be further closures in Neumünster from October 13th to 15th and from October 16th to 18th, before disruptions will also be caused on the section between Owschlag and Schleswig/Schuby until October 23rd.

Further restrictions in Schleswig-Holstein

The A20 is also affected, with access to the A1 at the Lübeck motorway junction being closed on October 9th. Until December 2026, the A21 will be subject to road renewal on both sides between Leezen and Bad Oldesloe-Nord, to which diversions have been set up. The A23 has made its adjustments by completely closing the Hohenfelde junction until October 28, 2025 and the Heide-West junction until November 28, 2025, which is causing additional stress.

However, in line with the road construction sites, there are also encouraging developments in terms of the maintenance of transport infrastructure. According to Bauindustrie, the federal government has decided on changes to investments. The focus is now on maintenance rather than new construction, which is critical to the long-term health of the transport network. Over the coming years, significant financial resources will be available to modernize the existing transport routes and also bring the bridges in Germany into shape.

In summary, it is advisable for users of the roads in Schleswig-Holstein to keep up to date with current construction sites and possible disruptions. Local authorities and institutions strive to ensure road safety and the quality of the infrastructure. Whether on the country roads or on the motorways, a little patience and attention are required to reach your destination safely.
