New assistant coach Simon Hennig: A Flensburg dream comes true!
SG Flensburg-Handewitt welcomes a new assistant coach who wants to stir up waves in the handball Bundesliga with fresh enthusiasm and extensive experience. Simon Hennig, a well-known face in Flensburg, will be coach Aleš Pajović's right-hand man from next season. In this role, he replaces outgoing assistant coach Anders Eggert and brings with him an impressive portfolio of skills.
At just 33 years old, Hennig already has a colorful career with the SG. He has been part of the club since 1998, has worked through all youth teams and most recently worked as sporting director at the SG Flensburg Academy. His knowledge of the club's internal young talent will be of use to him in order to build a bridge between the juniors and the professionals, as [fla.de](https://www.fla.de/sport/handbold/74582/-davon- Werden-alle-profitieren-hennigs-neue-rolle-bei-der-sg) reports.
A project close to my heart
Hennig has not only left his mark in the academy, but also as a coach for the A-youth and in working with kindergarten children and primary schools. “Standing on the sidelines of my club fills me with pride,” reveals Hennig and sees his new role as the fulfillment of a dream. The backing of SG managing director Holger Glandorf and those responsible for the youth academy also leaves room for positive expectations. “Everyone will benefit from this,” he is certain.
In his new position, Hennig will not only work more intensively with the professionals, but will also continue to act as coach of the U19s. In this way, he remains deeply rooted in what is happening and can significantly strengthen communication between the young talent and professional areas. This connection is important not only for Hennig, but also for the future of the club, as he better understands what the professionals need to be successful.
A look at the future
Part of Hennig's tasks will be to actively participate in training and support the coach in analyzing games, which also includes processing statistics. He has already held discussions with Ljubomir Vranjes, the sporting director, about a closer collaboration, which will further consolidate his promotion in the coaching team. “The profile in youth handball remains the same,” explains Hennig, who is optimistic about the future.
While Hennig is taking on his new role, a DHB certificate training course for young coaches is running at the same time, which has been taking place in Potsdam since Whit Monday. This further training aims to optimally ensure the training of talented players and to adapt coaching qualifications to the increasing demands in handball sports. Topics such as talent identification and development are very popular, which underlines the strategic planning of youth work, as stated on the DHB website.
With Simon Hennig on the sidelines, a lot will happen in Flensburg, and the handball world can be excited to see how his new role will affect SG Flensburg-Handewitt.
