Oeversee: After a fatal accident - Mayor demands speed limit!

Oeversee, Deutschland - Last weekend a tragedy happened in the municipality of Oeversee: an eleven -year -old boy died after a serious accident on the country road. The incident occurred on July 4, 2025, when the young cyclist wanted to cross the road at a bus stop and was captured by a 43-year-old driver. Despite all the efforts, he died of his life -threatening injuries in the Kiel University Hospital on Sunday. The circumstances of the accident have so far been unclear and the investigation of the Tarp police station is still running. In the meantime, the community does not remain idle.

Mayor Ralf Bölfk has already launched initiatives to improve traffic safety at the scene of the accident. He plans to stand up for a speed limit on Landstrasse 317, which can currently be used at 80 km/h. Due to the danger of this route, especially for children from Munkwolstrup, the municipality will send a letter to the State Transport Ministry to request tightening the speed limitation and the installation of needs in two critical bodies. In a conversation with the parents concerned, it became clear that there is an urgent need for action, since children have to cross this busy road on their way to school.

danger zone for school children

The scene of the accident near the Bilschau is already known as dangerous. A traffic island was already installed during a previous renovation of the street to increase the safety of pedestrians. But this is not enough for Mayor Bölck. The crossing at the academy stop must also be discussed, since it is also considered a risk center. A speed limit could not only reduce the speed of the vehicles, but also sharpen the awareness of the drivers who are often too fast.

This tragedy throws a light on the safety situation in road traffic. According to the German statutory accident insurance (DGUV), over 100,000 accidents pass on the way or of educational institutions annually. Around 50 percent of these school accidents are done in road traffic, and around 25,000 to 30,000 accidents are by bike. The DGUV is actively committed to sensitizing the mobility risks for children and adolescents. Your goal is to promote awareness of safe participation in road traffic in addition to the imparting of traffic rules.

Together for more security

The tragic events of the weekend have raised awareness of traffic safety in Oeversee. The demand for a speed limit and other security -promoting measures is the first step in the right direction. It is of the greatest importance that the streets become safer, especially for the youngest road users. Mayor Bölck and the municipality of Oeversee go on with a good example and show that you not only have to talk, but also to act when it comes to the safety of the children.

The municipality of Oeversee hopes for a rapid response from the Ministry of Transport in order to be able to initiate the necessary measures. Because every accident that can be avoided counts and could, in the best case, contribute to the fact that such tragedies do not repeat.
