Rhine-Neckar Lions celebrate clear victory – donations for good causes!

It was an exciting afternoon in the SAP Arena in Mannheim when the Rhein-Neckar Löwen played against the HC Erlangen team on the Löwenherz match day. In front of 6,827 enthusiastic spectators, the starting signal was given for a meeting that not only ignited the competitive spirit, but also served a good cause. The aim of the event was to collect donations for the Weinheim Pilgrim House, which supports young people, families and people with disabilities. A great reason to go to a handball game!

The Lions started the game strongly and led 18:14 at halftime. In the end there was a clear 35:27 victory on the scoreboard – another highlight of the season. Coach Maik Machulla was satisfied with the performance of his boys, who are already on a successful course after a previous win against Wetzlar (30:23). The Bundesliga debut of Elias Ciudad Benitez, who played his first game for the Lions in this encounter, was particularly impressive.

Personal challenges and upcoming games

Unfortunately, the team also had to accept a setback: Robin Timmermeister will be out until the end of the year with a torn medial meniscus. This is a painful loss for the Lions, especially in the crucial phase of the season. Despite this challenge, the Lions are still in the running and can look forward to the next games.

The next home game will take place on December 11th, 2025 against VfL Gummersbach, followed by an away game at SG Flensburg-Handewitt on December 14th, 2025. The anticipation is increasing and the supporters are hoping for more exciting duels!

Talented players in the national team

With regard to the upcoming 2026 European Handball Championship, there was also positive news for the Lions: five players have been nominated for the extended squad. David Späth, Patrick Groetzki, Sebastian Heymann, Tim Nothdurft and Jannik Kohlbacher will increase the chances of being nominated in the final European Championship squad on December 17, 2025. Such successes at the national team level also strengthen the visibility and popularity of handball in Germany.

Along with football, handball is one of the most popular popular sports. This is also reflected in the impressive viewership numbers of the German Handball Bundesliga, which has regularly attracted around 1.5 million viewers per season since its founding in 1966. The anticipation for the upcoming European and World Championships is palpable, especially after the Danish national team recently won the World Cup title.

All in all, it can be said that the Rhein-Neckar Lions not only shine on the field, but also set an example outside the field through their social commitment. The next challenges and games are already waiting - it will be exciting to see what happens next!
