SG Flensburg-Handewitt remains unbeaten: home win against HSV!
A spectacular handball evening in “Hölle Nord”: SG Flensburg-Handewitt remains unbeaten even after a thrilling game against HSV Hamburg. The game began with a standing ovation, with Marko Grgić taking the reins right from the start. He opened the first knot with a goal and a ball win, but the flood of goals soon subsided. Numerous saves by the goalkeepers kept the spectators in suspense, while the defensive lines of both teams proved to be more stable than the offensive actions.
The game had some exciting twists and turns. With the score at 5:5, SG conceded the last equalizer before Kent Robin Tønnesen scored two impressive goals from the backcourt. Aleš Pajović, wanting to optimize the attack, pressed the buzzer. This announcement helped: The SG upped the ante and Lukas Jørgensen and Emil Jakobsen increased the score to 12:6. The spectators were enthusiastic and celebrated their team.
A heart-stopping finale
The Hamburg guests tried to counter with seven offensive players, but the SG had a narrow lead at half-time. Kevin Møller, Flensburg's goalkeeper, showed his class by parrying both a free throw and a seven-meter penalty at the start of the second half. Another goal from Domen Novak increased the gap to 20:14, and Johannes Golla graced the game with a backhand hit to make it 23:18.
Unfortunately, SG made some technical errors that gave Hamburg the opportunity to get within 24:23. The mood in the “Hölle Nord” was combative, but when Hamburg tried to catch up again at 26:25, the tension was within reach. Finally, Simon Pytlick's two important goals gave the SG some breathing room. And with another seven-meter save from Kevin Møller and Pytlick's goal to make it 32:26, the SG secured the final score. The next opponent on the program is SC Magdeburg - before that the SG travels to Romania for the EHF European League.
Change at the top in New England
After Caleb Porter was fired in September, Mitrović was trusted for the vacant coaching position. New England finished the 2025 season in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, but signs are pointing to an improvement. With a squad dominated by talents like Peyton Miller and well-known players like Carles Gil at the top, sporting director Curt Onalfo sees great potential in the new coach's modern coaching philosophies.
“I am very happy about the trust that has been placed in me,” said Mitrović, who is committed to forming a strong team that fans can be proud of.
