SG Flensburg-Handewitt celebrates a strong 40:27 win against GWD Minden!

On Monday evening, SG Flensburg-Handewitt achieved an impressive 40:27 victory in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga against GWD Minden. For coach Aless Pajovic's team, this was the first win of the season after two draws and a real liberation. In the Lübbecke district sports hall, 3,300 spectators were able to witness how Flensburg dominated over long stretches and barely allowed the decimated hosts to develop.

The game started furiously: after just 36 seconds, Lasse Møller put the SG in the lead. GWD Minden was able to equalize through Karolis Antanavičius, but Flensburg quickly took control with a 4-0 run. After just nine minutes it was already 7:3 for the SG. Holger Glandorf, managing director of the SG, emphasized the importance of the strong defensive performance in the first half, which enabled his team to go into the half-time break with a lead of 22:16. If we had been more concentrated, the gap could have been even clearer.

A strong team, a strong goal

Benjamin Burić, the Flensburg goalkeeper, focused attention on the improved team performance. “The last two games were not ideal, but today we finally showed what we are capable of,” said Burić. Especially in the second half, Flensburg's defense was aggressive and stable, which helped Burić record an impressive eleven saves.

The challenge was also clear at GWD Minden: Coach Aaron Ziercke had to do without several key players, including Daniel Astrup Pedersen and Alexander Weck. While there weren't enough solutions to put Flensburg under pressure during the game, the players with young talents like Lasse Franz and Mathis Welle still knew how to make an impact when they scored their first Bundesliga goals. Ziercke attributed his team's difficulties to the fact that they had to cope with additional stress in their third game in just eight days.

Statistical highlights

The versatility and strength of the SG was also reflected in the individual performances: Marko Grgic was the best thrower of the game with eight goals, followed by Luca Witzke and Domen Novak, who each scored five goals. Karolis Antanavičius was the most successful for Minden with seven goals. With this win, Flensburg has moved up to third place in the table, while the hosts remain in 16th place.

With this game, SG Flensburg-Handewitt impressively demonstrated that they are willing to maintain their place in the table and be at the top.
