Domestic violence: New start-up offers hope for women in need

in Schleswig-Holstein made an alarming phenomenon to the 9,300 women and men in 2024 the victim of domestic violence. This worrying number is only part of the reality that many affected people experience every day. Sogol Kordi, the founder of the online platform "Myprotectify", has experienced what it means to be caught in a violent relationship. She suffered from physical, mental and sexualized violence for four years and only managed to free herself at the age of 25 - without her own apartment, a job or a bank account.

"Myprotectify" offers these people an urgently needed point of contact to find help anonymously. The platform has a AI chat called "Maya", which is available around the clock and is available to those affected if you have any questions. "Maya" enables help to find help without an evaluation or stigmatizing answer. Another goal of Kordi and her team is to make the topic of domestic violence in society more visible and to offer workshops for companies.

a significant project

in a year in which the terrible like the death of seven people was registered by domestic violence in the state, "Myprotectify" is a ray of hope. Of the 9,360 sacrificed cases, over 71% were women who often reach the limits of their possibilities. "Myprotectify" wants to create a community for those affected to promote the exchange of experiences and to remind them that they are not alone.

In the course of her impressive work, Kordi 2024 was awarded first place in the "Pitch Competition" at the "Waterkant Festival". This opened up the opportunity to work on innovative ideas in Silicon Valley. In addition, "Myprotectify" received the Social Impact Award in Berlin as well as the diversity award and the audience award at the FördePreneur competition in Flensburg.

recognition for outstanding commitment

Another highlight in Kordi's career was the awarding of the Soroptimist Germany Prize on March 8, 2025, on the occasion of the international day of the woman. Around 200 Sorores celebrated the award in Berlin that Kordi received for her project. Under the direction of Bernadette La Hengst, the opening song "Women of the World" and a video message from First Lady Elke Büdenbender underlined the importance of the event. On this occasion, Kordi was honored as a winner. In the laudation, her commitment and the relevance of her work were recognized against domestic violence.

The number of women who are affected by domestic violence in Germany speaks a clear language: in 2023 around 181,000 women were victims, which corresponds to 71% of the 256,000 registered cases. This violence can be found like a shadow over society, especially in partnerships and families. Prevention and help offers are therefore of crucial importance, whereby the "Myprotectify" platform makes a valuable contribution.

It remains to be hoped that such initiatives will continue to grow and raise awareness of this complex problem. While many women still suffer in the dark, "Myprotectify" has an essential light on the way to healing and self -determination.

For everyone who is affected themselves, there are also help offers such as the help telephone "Violence against Women" under number 116 016, which recorded around 86,700 contacts in the current year. The responsibility of our society is to support those affected - and with initiatives such as Kordis "Myprotectify", a light is in the darkness of domestic violence.
