Study abroad: This is how much funding there is in 2024/25!
Studying abroad is a dream for many students, and with the Erasmus+ program, this dream is now more tangible. The exchange program offers interesting financial support for students at European universities and ensures that their stay abroad is not only unforgettable but also affordable. Haw Kiel reports that the amount of funding depends on the target country. The offer is particularly attractive for countries in the first funding group, such as Belgium, Denmark and France, where students can receive 600 euros per month. For students traveling to Estonia, Greece or Spain there is 540 euros per month.
Financial support is not limited to the amount of the scholarship. The total amount of funding is based on the length of the stay, with arrival and departure days also being taken into account. For an internship abroad there is even an additional subsidy of 150 euros per month.
How does the financing work?
The Erasmus+ scholarship is paid out in two parts: 80% after signing the contract and the remaining 20% after returning from abroad. In addition, travel expenses can be claimed based on the distance to the host university, and environmentally friendly means of transport such as buses, trains or bicycles are additionally supported. A special grant for students with special needs, the so-called “Fewer Opportunities-Top Up”, can also be applied for and amounts to 250 euros per month.
An illustrative example to illustrate this: A stay in Finland of 131 days could be funded with a total of 2969 euros, whereby the amount depends on the travel allowance and additional travel days. In the case of the “Fewer Opportunities-Top Up”, the total amount would even rise to 4,077 euros.
