On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Hanseatic city of Lübeck will open its doors to over 30 historical monuments as part of the nationwide Open Monument Day. This year the event's motto is “Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?”. The aim is to introduce visitors to the material and historical value of the monuments and to raise awareness of our cultural heritage, as Borkener Zeitung reports.

Come with us on a journey through time through Lübeck's fascinating history! Those interested have the opportunity to visit various sights, including medieval old town churches, historic town houses and former granaries. The district and regional court at Burgfeld, the reform school with planetarium and the Maritim Strandhotel in Travemünde, which was built in the early 1970s, are also on the program.

A variety of program items await visitors

In total, more than three dozen program items are planned, ranging from free tours to exciting activities. Local experts and storytellers guide the events, which place a special focus on Lübeck's hidden treasures. However, some program items require prior registration, which is why it is advisable to take care of participation in good time, as the Tag-des-offenen-Denkmals-Website explains.

The event is not only a great opportunity to learn more about Lübeck's history, but also to experience the city from a new perspective. Visitors can experience a wide range of events at over 9,000 events in more than 6,000 monuments across Germany, which are coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection. The Open Monument Day has been held since 1993 and is under the patronage of the Federal President. This special day is not to be missed because it offers a unique insight into places that are often inaccessible, as Denkmalschutz.de highlights.
