Glitter instead of queerphobia: CSD Kiel attracts 5,000 revelers!
Christopher Street Day (CSD) will take place in Kiel on July 12, 2025, and the anticipation is great! Under the motto “Glitter instead of queerphobia”, the event will be a colorful and loud demonstration for respect and acceptance. Around 5,000 participants are expected to stand up for the rights and visibility of the queer community.
The planned parade starts at 12 p.m. at Kiel main station and leads through the city center to Kieler Hörn. Not only concerts await here, but also political rallies and stands from various organizations that promote diversity and against discrimination. The police and the city expect traffic disruptions to occur in the city center between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., but no counter-demonstrations have been registered, so the police are expecting the event to be peaceful.
Make a strong statement
The motto “Glitter instead of queerphobia” is more than just a slogan. It is a clear commitment against discrimination and intolerance. “We call on all people to take a stand against queerphobia,” explains the CSD organizational team. Every individual has the right to develop and love freely, and that is exactly what should be celebrated at the CSD. The glitter symbolizes hope and the strength of the queer community, which invites everyone to come together in a colorful and respectful setting.
The CSD in Kiel also takes a critical look at right-wing movements and populist parties that spread hatred and intolerance. The aim is to counteract oppression and make a strong statement for freedom and justice. “We want to promote visibility and the right to self-determination,” said a spokesman for the CSD team. Everyone who advocates for a fair and respectful society is invited to take an active part.
The roots of the CSD
The history of the CSD goes back to the 1960s, when the legendary Stonewall riots occurred in New York. These events paved the way for one of the largest emancipation movements in the world. The first CSD parade in Germany took place in Berlin in 1979 and attracted 450 participants. But even if the CSD events are much larger and more commercial today, the political nature of these actions remains of great importance. Another important aspect is the focus on the concerns of older lesbian and gay people, who have so far often been in the background, says Bernd Gaiser, a pioneer from the very beginning.
Overall, the CSD in Kiel will be a celebration of humanity that goes beyond the queer community. When people gather on July 12th, it will not only be a colorful spectacle, but also a powerful sign of tolerance and solidarity against any form of exclusion. Come by and let's celebrate together!
