Neumünster on the move: New Markant supermarket and social housing planned!
A lot is happening in Neumünster on the former site of the Stock Guss foundry, which has become more important since it was sold by Friedrich-Karl Winter in 2013. Winter reports on the challenges brought about by the corona pandemic and rising construction costs, but is overall satisfied with the progress. Various construction projects have already been completed on the property, including three blocks of 36 social housing units that have been rented out for a year. These new living spaces are urgently needed on Graveshamstrasse because the demand for social housing is high, as the Budenheld housing exchange also notes.
Further positive news is the upcoming opening of a new daycare center, which will be handed over to the city of Neumünster on July 31, 2023. This daycare center is scheduled to start operations in autumn 2025 with 60 places after a change in ownership has taken place. This is an important step in further expanding the city's family-friendly infrastructure.
Construction projects and future prospects
However, the property still has a lot of potential. Winter has now sold an area to Bartels-Langness, where a Markant supermarket and apartments are to be built. While the exact timeline for this project is still missing, there are many housing options available to residents in Neumünster, as a listing from Budenheld shows. Currently you can find there, among other things:
- 1-Zimmerwohnung mit Balkon in Neumünster
- 5-Zimmer-WG mit Garten
- Helle 4-Zimmer-Wohnung in der Wasbeker Straße
- 2-Zimmer-Neubauwohnung in Neumünster-Wittorf
However, all of these apartments are subject to special requirements; To move into social housing, you need a housing entitlement certificate (WBS), which checks the applicant's income limit. The citizens' office in Neumünster is the contact point for interested parties who comply with the relevant regulations and documents.
Social needs and housing policy challenges
Requests for social housing often exceed supply. A current look at the housing market shows that there are currently 170 social housing units available in Neumünster - spread over 15 different housing options. The high demand means that many applicants often have to be sent to the queue. Important documents for applying for social housing include not only the WBS, but also relevant evidence of income and freedom from rent debt.
There are also plans for additional multi-family homes on the property in the future, which Winter is reviewing. A first step in this direction could be a new interested party who is already thinking about using the apartment. The assets of the former foundry could thus develop into a central residential project that not only includes social housing, but also various other forms of housing.
All in all, Neumünster shows that urban life remains dynamic, with a clear focus on social housing, which is highly relevant for many families and lower-income citizens. The changes on the Stock Guss GmbH site remain exciting, and the city will have to keep an eye on the progress in the coming years.
