Neumünster: New Turkish restaurant enlivens the Holsten Gallery!
There has been a certain calm in the Holsten-Galerie Neumünster since the end of December 2024, because the popular Frittenwerk has temporarily closed its doors. Much like the wind can do in northern Germany, a new gastronomic breeze is blowing here: a Turkish specialty restaurant is expected to open at the Gänsemarkt at the end of this year. The restaurant will be based on the concept of the renowned Turkish BBQ restaurant “Hardal” and will focus on a combination of Turkish patisserie and café. This not only pleases lovers of Turkish cuisine, but also breaks the current stagnating standard of gastronomy in the gallery.
Frittenwerk, which opened its first branch in Schleswig-Holstein in January 2020, is now increasingly concentrating on its presence in the Neumünster designer outlet center. Here the company aims to satisfy loyal customers with a wide selection of Canadian fries, poutines, salads as well as a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. There are also creative innovations like thisSUCUK FRIEZE, available from January 8, 2025, and an exclusiveDUBAI CHURROS-Variant that has been on the plate since November 22, 2024. Whether fries or churros, Frittenwerk knows how to boost business - even if this doesn't happen in the old location.
New concept and adjustments
The most recent restaurant in the Holsten GalleryT-Chicken BowlsIt was launched at the beginning of June and, in addition to bowl creations, also offers particularly crunchy “corn dogs”. This new opening reflects an effort to bring the food court back into shape, where only about 85 of the 90 or so shops are currently occupied. When asked how long vacancies last on average, center manager Christian Langsdorff answers that it is usually several months. After the frit factory was closed, new operator models were introduced which, among other things, provided for a decentralized return of trays in order to reduce costs.
Despite the challenges facing the catering industry - be it the impact of COVID-19 or increasing price pressure - it remains an essential part of northern German culture. This industry not only reflects regional diversity, but also provides a home for many jobs. But the numbers show a trending decline: catering sales were 12.6% lower in September 2023 compared to the same month in 2019, which clearly shows that it is not easy to assert yourself in the market.
A look at the future
As the Holsten Gallery works towards its tenth anniversary in October, the combination of new accents and willingness to experiment is a breath of fresh air. With a consistent focus on customer wishes and closing gaps in the product range, the attractiveness of the central location is to be increased again. The catering industry will continue to be an important economic factor, and realignment through innovative concepts and creative menus could be crucial. In addition, consumers enjoy healthy and regional products, which is an exciting development in the hospitality industry.
We can only hope that the vacancy in the Holsten Gallery will soon be a thing of the past and that new gastronomic highlights will find their way into the hearts and stomachs of Neumünster residents. After all, the search for the best restaurant addresses is always a journey - and it has only just begun.
