Neumünster's new market master: Skrollan Kohwitz organizes diversity!

There has been a new market manager in Neumünster since the end of February 2025: Skrollan Kohwitz. The passionate organizer is responsible for the weekly market, the fairs, the Holstenköste and the Christmas market. Their entry into the market was anything but easy, as the first market day began at a frosty minus twelve degrees. Today the weekly market is a real highlight for many in the region and takes place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Kohwitz not only takes care of the organization of the markets, she is also often the earliest in the office. Your working day starts at 3:30 a.m. She is already in the office at 4:30 a.m. and from 5:00 a.m. she checks the parking areas in Kleinflecken, where all the stands are currently being set up. The Großflecken is temporarily closed due to construction work and is unlikely to be usable until the end of October 2023. "The atmosphere at the market is special. It is a meeting place and many people come to socialize," says Kohwitz reports KN-online.

The challenges of market operations

The challenges for the market manager should not be underestimated. “On market days, all parked cars in the Kleinflecken must be removed, and I try to inform residents in good time to avoid towing operations,” explains Kohwitz. She has no deputy and manages the organization largely on her own. She is responsible for everything from space planning to dealer acquisition and has to go to the market herself if there are problems.

The range at the weekly market is particularly diverse. While 28 traders offer their goods on Tuesdays, there are 35 on Fridays and only 9 on Saturdays. Fresh regional products are particularly popular: from fruit and vegetables to meat and home-made dairy products. “The loyal regular customers and the pleasant atmosphere are what draw many people to the market,” says Kohwitz. It is a tradition to buy fresh fish, especially on Fridays, and interest in organic products is constantly growing reports the SHZ.

The Christmas market and further plans

Kohwitz is a true Christmas fanatic and has been planning the Christmas market in Neumünster since August. This will open on November 20th and will offer classics such as mulled wine and bratwurst. Even the Christmas balls for the big fir tree are already stored in her office. “I love the festive atmosphere and like to wear my Christmas sweaters at Christmas time,” she reveals with a smile. “She would also like to sell sweets herself, because her love of sweets is also reflected in her office equipment,” she reports on my farm.

Kohwitz began her professional career in the social welfare office and now brings remarkable organizational talent to her new role as market manager. With an open ear for the wishes of retailers and customers, she ensures that the markets are not only places for shopping, but also for social interaction. The diverse mix of traders and an increasingly younger audience will help ensure that the markets remain attractive in the future.
