Low German stage pays tribute to Bellmann: A festive program awaits!

What a cultural event awaits us next year! The Niederdeutsche Bühne Neumünster (NBN) is dedicating the 2025/26 season to the renowned Low German writer Johann Dietrich Bellmann, who lived between 1930 and 2006. His works, in which he dealt with major human themes in Low German, are still important today. This is the news that brings Kiel News to the light.

Bellmann, born on May 8, 1930 in Ruschwedel and died on June 25, 2006 in Nindorf, expanded Low German storytelling with prose, drama and poetry. He asked questions about God, man and knowledge in a North German context, which secured him a permanent place in literature. His best-known work “Lüttjepütt oder In Grootvadder sien Hüüs” and the volume of poetry “Inselnünner den Wind” are among the cornerstones of New Low German literature. The Neumünster literary circle emphasizes that Bellmann should be mentioned in the same breath as other big names such as Groth, Fehrs and Kruse.

Diverse program attracts audience

The NBN wants to celebrate Bellmann's legacy with a colorful program. Musician and journalist Jan Graf will kick things off on September 14th at 4 p.m. He brings melodies to Bellmann's poems and provides insights into his world of thought. Graf is known for his ability to portray Bellmann's characters with understanding and empathy, which he wants to bring out in a musical and literary afternoon. He will use manuscripts and his guitar to take listeners into the author's mind.

A central highlight is the reading on Wednesday, November 5th, at which Annett Schnoor and Nils Münz present excerpts from Bellmann's works. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in Low German literature.

Theater performances and special events

The comedy “Separation for Bangbüxen” by Clément Michel will be performed from October 10th. The amusing plot revolves around Paul convincing his friend Martin to get rid of Sophie, which leads to all sorts of funny complications.

Another highlight is the musical “Christmas Fever”, which is recommended for children aged four and over from November 22nd. Here, viewers can expect interesting insights into the goings-on in the Secret Santa workshop. A little later, on December 20th and 21st, the reading “Wiehnachten bi de Nedderdüütschen” will take place - a festive event with tradition, punch, cookies, stories and music.

The NBN is ringing in the turn of the year with the musical “Hormonical” “Willkamen in de Wesseljohren” by Tilmann von Blomberg, which deals with the topic of menopause in a humorous way.

In total, the NBN is planning an impressive 75 events by May 2026, including ten special events and 65 theater performances. In this way, the Low German Stage sends a strong signal for the appreciation of Low German culture and literature.
