Three cars in Norderstedt: Major fire in underground car park – fire brigade on duty!

Vigilance in Norderstedt: On the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, there was a massive fire in an underground car park in the Garstedt district, on Berliner Allee. At 3:43 a.m. the fire alarm system alerted the Norderstedt professional fire department and the Garstedt volunteer fire department. On site, a police patrol discovered noticeable smoke and heard banging noises that indicated the extent of the fire.

The fire, which was classified as a “major fire” (FEU G), involved a total of three cars that were on fire. Operations manager Fabian Wachtel and around 70 emergency services fought the flames with all their might. The fire department used three hand-held jet pipes, including two with compressed air foam (CAFS). The conditions in the underground car park were particularly challenging; High temperatures and limited visibility made extinguishing work considerably more difficult.

Lengthy fight against the flames

The entire firefighting process took around 45 minutes, while the subsequent extinguishing work and cooling of the affected vehicle areas took additional time. The professional fire department was supported by the Harksheide volunteer fire department, which was on site with a special alarm for logistics and the Friedrichsgabe volunteer fire department for decontamination.

The fire department was finally able to bring the fire under control by around 6:45 a.m. without anyone being injured. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear and is the subject of police investigations. There is currently no reliable information about the material damage caused.

Additional missions in the area

In addition to the fire in Norderstedt, there was another incident in the area on the same day. In Wedel, the fire department was alerted at around 9:30 a.m. after a car in an underground car park burst into flames. Here too, there were no injuries, but the ceiling of the garage was significantly damaged and structural supports had to be installed. Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed while firefighters extinguished the fire.

It has been shown again and again: the rapid response of the fire brigade and the efficiently coordinated cooperation of the emergency services are crucial. In such tense situations you have to know where you can go, and the emergency services in Norderstedt and Wedel have impressively proven that. The protection of citizens is the top priority and the fire brigade was once again at the top of its job.
