Major operation in Norderstedt: Three cars completely burned down in the underground car park!

Yesterday, on July 4, 2025, the town of Krempe in the Steinburg district was rocked by a violent fire. A shed in the city center was engulfed in flames, which posed a major challenge for the fire department. However, with around 80 firefighters deployed, the fire was brought under control after around three hours. Fortunately, the risk of the flames spreading to an adjacent residential building was averted in time. The incident did not cause any injuries, but the cause of the fire remains unclear. What is behind this fire?

Another alarming incident occurred in the neighboring town of Norderstedt on July 5, 2025. Three cars burned down in the underground car park at the Herold Center, resulting in massive smoke. The Norderstedt professional fire department and the Garstedt volunteer fire department were alerted at 3:43 a.m. after the fire alarm system sounded the alarm. They encountered impressive challenges on site: there was zero visibility and high thermal stress. Around 70 emergency services battled the flames, which made it necessary to increase the operational code to “higher standard fire”. The fire was extinguished after about an hour, but the cause of the fire remains unclear.

Emergency forces in constant use

The emergency services had to enter the underground car park via two entrances to fight the fire. Equipped with hand-held jet pipes and wearing heavy breathing apparatus, they tackled the flames. The emergency services had to contend with heavy smoke, which severely limited visibility. Thanks to their professional approach and the support of independent fire departments in the area, the fire was ultimately brought under control early in the morning without any damage to personnel or buildings.

The managing director of the Norderstedt fire department praised everyone involved: “A big thank you for their tireless efforts under these difficult conditions.” Nevertheless, the police are faced with the question of whether technical defects or even arson caused the fire.

Weather conditions and fire protection

Meanwhile, the weather in Schleswig-Holstein presents a changeable picture. On July 5, 2025, meteorologists expect mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers. On the Elbe, the sun could brighten things up a bit in the afternoon. In terms of temperatures, the region has temperatures of a maximum of 19 degrees on Sylt and up to 23 degrees in Ahrensburg. But despite the summer temperatures, plant protectors and fire protection officers should remain vigilant.

According to current fire protection statistics, technical defects or human error are often the causes of fire incidents. In view of the recent incidents in Krempe and Norderstedt, it remains to be seen what findings the investigations will bring. In the meantime, it is essential to pay close attention to the safety of citizens and to react quickly in the event of a fire.
