Norderstedt is planning a dream home: 1,200 apartments in Grüner Heyde!

Something is happening in the area of housing construction in Norderstedt, Schleswig-Holstein. A major project that could shake up the region is taking concrete shape. The urban development committee has now officially defined the legal framework for the “Grüne Heyde” new development area. This ambitious project envisages the construction of around 1,200 apartments that will provide space for over 2,500 people. In a few words: There is a lot of construction going on here! As the Time reports, planning for the project has been going on since 2012.

The area currently used for agricultural purposes covers an impressive 47 hectares. According to the first city councilor Christoph Magazowski, various investors will be involved in the project, which means that the individual sections will be built gradually. So there is still a lot of planning and construction ahead of us, as completion is expected to take a full decade. Five years from now, if everything goes according to plan, the first construction phase could be completed!

Sustainable transport concept

Particular attention is also paid to the traffic concept of the new residential area. The aim is to significantly reduce car traffic in residential areas. As in the report by NDR explains, mobility hubs with parking garages are being planned on the edge of the area. This will allow cars to park in large garages at the entrances to the district. Buses will also connect the development area with the subway and the city center. That sounds like a well thought-out plan to make Norderstedt fit for the future!

A large park with neighborhood gardens is also being planned, which will serve as a green retreat for the new residents. A concept that corresponds to the trend towards a better quality of life in urban areas and will certainly make the hearts of Norderstedt residents beat faster!

The urban development committee has announced that drawing up the development plan will probably take at least two years. Those responsible hope that the first development plans can be drawn up in two years at the earliest. However, there will still be a few hurdles to overcome before construction can actually begin. Committee chairman Nicolai Steinhau-Kühl (SPD) confirms that construction will not begin for four years at the earliest. So patience is required here until the first apartments can finally be completed.

The “Green Heyde” project is not only an important step for the urban development of Norderstedt, but could also play a pioneering role in the design of modern residential areas.
