A23 release: This is how holiday traffic is strengthened despite the A7 closure!

Goodbye traffic chaos, thinks the user of the A23! During the upcoming weekend from July 18th to 21st, 2025, drivers on Autobahn 23 near Pinneberg can expect temporary relief. Due to the complete closure of the A7 at the Schnelsen tunnel, the transport companies have decided to change the traffic routing on the A23. There are now two lanes available in the direction of Heide, which should significantly ease the situation on the busy route. How NDR reports, this measure is particularly important in order to equalize holiday traffic and avoid traffic jams.

The construction site on the A23 between the Halstenbek/Rellingen and Pinneberg-Nord exits will be rebuilt throughout the weekend in order to optimize the traffic flow. With the full closure of the A7, which begins on Friday evening and lasts until Monday morning, the authorities are expecting a significant increase in frequency on the A23. On the return journey on Monday, road users must also expect two night-time closures in the direction of Heide. These take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., as the Autobahn.de website reports: from Thursday to Friday and from Monday to Tuesday.

Detours and traffic routing

In order to compensate for the temporary traffic peaks, the diversion via the on-demand diversions U119 and U121 has been set up. These diversions are intended to ensure that traffic at the Pinneberg-Nord exit is directed back onto the A23. The Autobahn GmbH website offers a detailed view of the diversions and additional information. Autobahn.de

The work in this area is expected to last until the end of July, with one lane towards Heide and two lanes towards Hamburg being available again from Tuesday, July 22nd. However, it is advisable to keep a close eye on the traffic situation during this time and possibly plan alternative routes to avoid the frequent delays.
