Apple festival in Rellingen: juicing and autumn magic for the family!
On October 3rd there will be a very special apple festival in the discovery garden of the Umwelthaus in Pinneberg. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can not only immerse themselves in the world of apples, but also freshly press their own apples into juice. Under the motto “Pressing juice from your own apples and more”, the festival offers a colorful range of activities and information for young and old. SHZ reports.
If you want to bring your apples with you, you should make sure that the fruit is clean. For apple juice pressing, around 3 to 5 apples per person are sufficient to determine the variety and obtain a small amount of juice. For every 3 kilograms of apples you get around one liter of fresh juice - a real highlight for every apple lover. Visitors can also purchase apples picked from the discovery garden and the surrounding orchards.
Diverse activities and information
The apple festival not only promises juicy variety, but also exciting insights into the world of plants. Eva Maria Dieckmann from the Trifolia tree nursery provides information about bare-root plants and natural gardens. For the adventurous, environmental educator Jens Clausen and herbalist Maren Ziegler offer herb hikes. Here participants learn which herbs thrive in the region and how they can be used.
Another highlight of the festival are the children's activities, where little excursion guests can lay autumn mandalas or bake stick bread over an open fire - an experience that the little ones will certainly have fond memories of. An impressive 5 kilograms of yeast dough were used for the stick bread at a previous garden party. Members of BUND will also be on site and will provide festival visitors with advice and support.
Juicing made easy
Making apple juice is not only easy but also fun. You can either use freshly picked apples or even fallen fruit. It is important to choose a suitable apple press, be it mechanical or electric, depending on your own preferences and budget. Accessories such as press basket and pressure plates are also important to achieve an optimal result. About 0.5 liters of apple cider are obtained from 1 kilogram of apples, although the amount depends heavily on the apple variety. Garden magazine explains the details of these exciting processing options for the sweet fruits.
There are a few tips for everyone who wants to enjoy their freshly squeezed apple juice later: The juice should be left to stand after pressing and, if necessary, boiled briefly so that it lasts longer. If you feel like it, you can also use the fruity delicacy to make apple jelly or apple cider - the possibilities are almost endless!
For all of these activities and many more, registration for large quantities of the electric apple press is required. Those interested can contact: info@umwelthaus-pinneberg.de Register or obtain further information on the Umwelthaus website.
So be there when the Apple Festival takes place on October 3rd. It will be a feast for the senses, with enjoyment and knowledge of nature at the forefront!
