Mail with heart: collect Christmas mail for lonely people in goods!

Advent, Advent, loneliness is burning - this or something similar could be used to describe the contemplative Christmas season, which for many people is characterized by withdrawal and loneliness. This year, the “Post with Heart” project is taking a stand against being alone. The WerkHaus Waren e.V. has called for people to write personally designed Christmas postcards in the run-up to Christmas. The aim is to reach lonely people and give them a piece of Christmas joy.

This initiative starts with a call that has been running since December 3, 2025. Both adults and children diligently wrote greetings at the Living Advent Calendar in Waren, at the St. Marien Advent Market and in the Immanuel Haus Ecktannen. The focus is particularly on the creative design of the cards: whether encouraging words, sentences filled with memories or simple friendly greetings - everything is welcome! “Every card counts,” said the organizers, who distributed the finished cards on December 20th. Target locations include senior citizens' facilities, hospices, a children's hospital and therapeutic living groups.

Loneliness at Christmas time

Loneliness, especially during the contemplative Christmas season, is a great burden for many people. Loud Report According to psychologists and counselors, loneliness not only affects well-being, but can also have serious health consequences. The experts Sonia Lippke and Kristin Glockow recommend first admitting loneliness and actively seeking contact with others. Small steps, like smiling while walking or inviting people to eat together, can help build new social contacts.

But it's not just cards that address loneliness. There are numerous offers that help to strengthen contact with others. Free telephone and chat offers are also provided, which offer valuable support, especially during the Christmas season. For older people, for example, there is the SILBERNETZ, which is accessible from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day.

A creative community project

The “Post with Heart” campaign has developed into a remarkable initiative over the years. Originally started as a small measure during the Corona lockdown in December 2020, where only 100 cards were expected, a total of 36,597 cards were sent. In the last five years, over 855,519 cards and over 1,700 facilities from all over Germany were reached. Founder Rumi Kirjakov originally came up with the idea to support the homeless, but now it's all about bringing joy to people in nursing homes.

Anyone interested in taking part in this heartwarming campaign can come to the WerkHaus at Schulstrasse 6 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to write cards over a cozy coffee and cookies. It's an opportunity to express creativity while connecting with people who could use a little light in their Christmas days.

This time of giving and community shows how much such initiatives can help overcome loneliness. Like that North churches reports, it's never too late to take the first step and connect with others.
