A look behind the scenes of women's football
Women's football has had a long way. Football was played by women in the Middle Ages without gender playing a role in the team's composition. In the 20th century, women's football experienced, especially in England, heights and depths. During the First World War, it was shown that women can also draw high number of spectators in the stadiums, such as the famous "Dick Kerr’s Ladies", who played in front of 50,000 fans in 1920. But after the war, women were pushed back into traditional roles, and until the 1950s, women's football in Germany was hardly recognized and relatively little spread. Only since the DFB was reopened has improved the acceptance of women in football.
Today, the German women's national team is one of the most successful in the world. She was not only able to win seven European championship titles, but also two world championship titles and three times Olympic bronze. This success is accompanied by the increasing number of girls football teams in Germany: in 2010, the DFB counted over a million female members in 14,000 women's and girls' teams. This makes it clear that women's football is not just a trend, but a permanently established discipline with ambitious goals.
a strong team
The Eintracht women's team shows that there is also great potential in regional football. The players are talented and are committed to making football accessible to everyone. The training takes place on the Kölper sports facility, where the teams train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Here, too, a valuable contribution to promoting girls' football is made.
With the day of girls' football, Eintracht sets another sign of the importance of women's football and its recognition in society. It seems like it is time to reduce the clichés and to support and make the women and girls who are very important to football.
