Celle in 8th place: bicycle traffic has progress, but the pressure remains!
The city of Celle has improved significantly at this year's ADFC bicycle climate test . This is shown by the current results that were determined between September and November 2024, in a survey of over 213,000 cyclists an 1,047 locations in Germany . The participants: Inside, bicycle friendliness in their cities and gave important information to improve the infrastructure. It should be noted that the test is one of the largest surveys on the cycling climate worldwide. Celler Presse reported that Celle has improved from number 29 in the previous year. The average grade improved from 3.8 to 3.5, which is considered rather modest.
What is behind these results? Some aspects were rated particularly critically by the cyclists. For example, the survey resulted in the following grades in different categories:
- false parker control on bike paths: 4.4
- drive in mixed traffic with motor vehicle: 4.1
- Width of the paths for cyclists: 4.4
- Guided tour of construction sites: 4.5
- Bicycle treatment in public transport: 4.6
- Public bicycles: 4.3
dr. Jörg Rodenwaldt from the Left/Future Celle demands that the testers react critically. In particular, the control of false parkers on cycle paths and the conditions in mixing traffic urgently need to be improved.
potential for further progress
Behiye UCA , on the other hand, sees quick improvement options, especially in the area of false parking control and when driving in mixed traffic. With the width of the bicycle paths, however, there are major challenges that are more difficult to manage. Rodenwaldt plans an application to ask the administration to develop suggestions for improvement. He warns of excessive complacency in the face of progress.
The bicycle climate test 2024 has also brought to light that the general climate for cyclists in Germany has improved slightly. The overall grade for all cities nationwide was at 3.92 and shows that initiatives are slowly bearing fruit to promote cycling. In cities such as Frankfurt am Main and Hanover, particularly positive developments were found, while Berlin received a poorer evaluation in this regard due to lack of engagements. ADFC emphasizes that big cities could achieve better results through active bicycle traffic.
In this context, it remains to be seen in which measures the city of Celle will react to the deliveries delivered and whether it is possible to further expand the current improvement. A good hand and clear priorities could be the key to sustainable improvement in the cycling conditions in the city.
