Gifhorn celebrates variety: CSD demo and street festival on July 11th!

Gifhorn, Deutschland - On July 8, 2025, Gifhorn becomes the setting of the first Christopher Street Day (CSD) of the city, and the anticipation is already noticeable. Under the motto "Love knows no limits - hatred no space!" gather people from 1 p.m. on Schillerplatz to stand up for the rights and visibility of queer people. The CSD is not only a celebration of diversity, but also a clear announcement against discrimination and intolerance.

like Regionalhute reports, the move at the city station and leads through picturesque corners like the Bergstrasse and Schlosspark past the mill. After a small Schlenker over the town hall, the train returns to Schillerplatz, where there will be a street festival from 3 p.m. Live music, numerous stands of parties, associations, unions and a colorful range of food and drinks promise a happy atmosphere.

a strong sign for the LGBTQI*community

The queer network Gifhorn has decided to set a strong sign with this event. Tyler Brian Rehse, a member of the network, emphasizes the importance of visibility, especially in rural areas, where discrimination is often still the order of the day. The background of Christopher Street Day goes back to the uprisings in New York in 1969, which are considered a turning point in the struggle for queer rights. This eventful history still has to be kept alive today, such as Deutschlandfunk Kultur illustrates.

Historically, the causes and struggles for the rights of the LGBTQI*community in Germany are diverse. From the early activists such as Karl Heinrich Ulrichs in the 19th century, who advocated the impression of same-sex acts, to Magnus Hirschfeld, who founded the first homosexual organization, the story can look back on a long tradition of resistance. However, these achievements are not a matter of course, especially in view of the current threats to queer rights and the increase in current discrimination.

celebration and solidarity

After the move, the street festival on the Steinweg will hopefully invite all visitors to linger in the inside. There is not only the opportunity to relax with a drink, but also to actively participate in the action. A tombola of the queer network will provide additional entertainment, while the aftershow party in the ice cellar Gifhorn with the band Final Impact and DJ Koyo rounds off the event.

The need to work for the rights and visibility of the LGBTQI*community is enormous. In view of an increase in queer anti -queer and the mobilizing forces of right -wing groups, we have to raise our voices and fight for equality. The CSD in Gifhorn is an opportunity to do this. Let us show them together: In our city there is space for diversity!
