Council provides cultural projects: theater, digitization and security!

Today's council meeting in Göttingen brings exciting developments for the cultural landscape of the city. The focus is particularly on the upcoming applications for promoting the German theater and digital education at the city library.

At the beginning of the session, a joint application by SPD, CDU and FDP was presented, which asks the city of Göttingen, the district of Göttingen and the state of Lower Saxony from 2027 to take over the increases of tariffs for the Deutsche Theater Göttingen. The administration should negotiate with the state of Lower Saxony in order to find long -term solutions. The Deutsches Theater, built in 1890 and known today as a spoken theater, is already using reserves to absorb wage increases. A concept for the financial listing should be presented to the cultural committee.

digital future in Göttingen

Another important application, supported by Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, Gölinke, Party, Volt and Dr. Welter-Schultes, aims at the development of a digital hub at the city library. This should act as a learning room for digital education and include the areas 3D printing, AR/VR, robotics as well as podcast and video production. The digital competence of young people is intended to promote partnerships for educational institutions. In addition, this application was unanimously transferred to the cultural committee for further advice.

In a further step, the city administration shows that it also has the social aspects in mind. The majority of an application for the introduction of a payment card for beneficiaries were transferred to the social committee. The aim is to ensure that it is non -discriminatory and practical. In addition, progress is to be reported regularly.

promotion of local cultural institutions

The promotion of regional cultural institutions is also a top priority. A joint application by the CDU and FDP, supplemented by an amendment by Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, stipulates that the administration is developing a funding guideline to support local cultural institutions. This is intended to ensure fair use of the town hall by cultural actors.

The applications underline the commitment of the city of Göttingen for a lively and diverse cultural scene. This is in line with the goals of the innovation fund, which is intended to promote digital development in the cultural sector to open up new target groups and to expand participation in the cultural offer. Digital strategies are more than just a trend-they should complement the analogue cultural work without replacing them, and are a new permanent task in the cultural area [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/sen/kulturelle--teiltung/digitalization/digitale- Development/) offers support here.
