New post office in Bad Pyrmont: A round table for the future!

In Bad Pyrmont, something is happening: On July 23, 2023, a new post office will open in Bathildisstrasse. This new opening brings a breath of fresh air to the local supply landscape after the old Postbank branch, which has been in town for many years, closes on July 29, 2023. The operator of this new branch is the Duo Regina Tripel and Paulo Teixeira, which starts with a lot of enthusiasm and fresh ideas. Teixeira took the step to Bad Pyrmont in January 2023 to build his own business here, while Tripel from Nordhorn moved to Bad Pyrmont to follow personal reasons. In the future, the new branch will be known under the name "Kiosk Regina" and "Post branch Bad Pyrmont 4".

The new business is being built in a former Tipico office, just 200 meters from the old Postbank branch. "We not only want to accept letters and packages, but also offer snacks and drinks," said Teixeira. The branch will be open from Monday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the exact opening hours of the post office are still pending. The opening was already very well received by the residents who gave very positive feedback.

general interest in rural areas

The importance of such facilities goes beyond the mere offer of services. According to the Federal Center for Political Education, general interest plays a decisive role in the quality of life in rural areas. Post branches are essential components of this supply, since older people and people with limited mobility in particular are dependent on offers close to home reports the BPB . In the past, numerous rural communities have already had difficulty keeping local supply offers such as grocery stores and post office.

At the moment there are efforts to improve this situation: An open letter from the SPD Bad Pyrmont calls for the preservation of the Post and Postbank branch at Bathildisstraße 10, since a closure is just around the corner in 2025. The older citizens who are dependent on these services are particularly affected. "A serious deterioration of the quality of life in Bad Pyrmont is to be feared", warn the authors of the letter and appeal to Deutsche Post AG to rethink their decision clarifies the SPD Bad Pyrmont .

The challenges that many municipalities stand in rural areas should not be underestimated. A decline in the population and the acceptance of local supply offers are just a few of the aspects that need to be mastered. In 2017, only 55% of the rural population had access to general practitioners on the foot, compared to 84% in urban areas. This means ensuring good general interest as a challenge, the coping of which requires political commitment and community actions.
