Hurricane Festival: Heat, thunderstorms and Green Day at the end!
As you would expect, things get really busy at the Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel. Today, June 22, 2025, not only features Green Day's highly anticipated performance, but also heated weather conditions. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of temperatures that are expected to reach up to 36 degrees, which, despite all the anticipation, is causing considerable concern. Meteorologist Sonja Stöckle recommends festival visitors to avoid sunbathing, especially in the midday and early evening hours, and to ensure they drink plenty of fluids. It is better to avoid alcohol, especially given the forecast for severe thunderstorms and downpours in the evening.
The security situation at the festival site looks positive so far. According to ndr.de there were no notable incidents, apart from a few thefts and minor scuffles. A total of around 130 criminal proceedings had been initiated by Sunday afternoon, which was probably quite reasonable compared to the number of visitors. Police and emergency services are well prepared for various scenarios and work closely together to be able to react quickly in an emergency. Security concepts and emergency plans play a crucial role in guaranteeing the well-being of the participants. Regular briefings and clear communication within the security forces ensure that everyone is up to date.
Accessibility and services for everyone
The organizers’ commitment to accessibility is particularly commendable. The Festival offers a Special Needs Camp for visitors with disabilities as part of its offering, which is a new and very welcome initiative. Registration is required via a form; in groups of up to five people - including an accompanying person - nothing can stand in the way of a carefree visit to the festival. The camp not only comes with power connections for medical equipment, but also offers barrier-free toilets and showers.
As the organizers of hurricane.de report, special escort services and welcome teams are in use to offer all visitors a pleasant experience. While regular camping areas are only partially barrier-free, the “Special Needs Camp” is fully designed to meet individual needs. Visitors only need a 50 meter extension cable to ensure their devices are always powered.
A festival of possibilities
The Hurricane Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year, not least because of the enormous variety and extensive range of food stands, bars and sanitary facilities. There are currently 700 flush toilets, around 1,200 portable toilets and 420 showers available to guests. Around 5,000 employees work to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that waste is well managed on the huge site, which is equivalent to around 289 football fields. Festival visitors can choose from more than 50 bars and 42 food stalls, making their stay even more enjoyable.
The organizers have also thought of travel options to ensure a comfortable journey. The festival site is just a 15-minute walk from Scheeßel train station. Cheap train tickets such as the 58 euro or the Lower Saxony ticket are on offer, and additional Metronome stops provide quick connections for the RE4 and RB41 lines. On the day of departure, shuttle buses are available to various cities, including Oldenburg, Hanover, Osnabrück and Hamburg. These run from the departure stop on Rudolf-Diesel-Straße.
Overall, the festival can draw a positive interim conclusion. Looking at what could come next, we can only hope that the remaining hours are calm and carefree. Though the thought of the evening's storms hovers over the venue, the anticipation of the evening, especially Green Day's performance, ensures that festival goers start the night in a good mood.
