Lüneburg's commercial area Bilmer Berg II: Future for companies starts!
The city of Lüneburg is serious: On June 20, 2025, the Council of the Hanseatic city decided on the development plan for the Bilmer Berg II industrial estate. The development of the approximately 34 hectare area in the southeast of the city can finally begin. The Hanseatic city of Lüneburg shows a good hand, since the planning in close cooperation with the WLH Business Development in the Harburg district and the economic funding for the city and district of Lüneburg (WLG) takes place. The goal? Create new settlement areas for medium -sized companies and strengthen the Lüneburg business location. This development is particularly important because the need for free commercial space in the region is high, as Jens Wrede, Managing Director of the WLH, explains.
The planning time of two years to the current maturity has been observed, and the development of the area will be used for about two and a half years. The work starts in several sections from north to south, which promises an orderly process. The first construction projects could even start before completing the development - a real advantage for companies that are quickly looking for space.
transport connection and infrastructure
The new industrial area makes the new commercial location on the planned federal motorway A39. The development is organized via August Wellenkamp-Straße and a newly created Friedrich-Penseler-Straße. Another highlight: A feasibility study for a possible expansion via the underpass of the A39 towards the Bilmer Berg III industrial estate is currently being examined. A crucial answer is expected here by June 30, 2027 at the latest, which could significantly influence the future development of the region.
But Bilmer Berg II is not only a place for economy, but it also provides space for the community. The development concept includes seven hectares for non -profit purposes, especially for a new sports area. In order to give space to this important project, a working group to develop a corresponding concept is set up.
public participation and environmental protection
Another plus is the early integration of the public in the planning process. At the end of 2023 and in spring 2025, public interpretations of the design took place, which shows that the city of Lüneburg brings the population on board. In addition, compensatory areas and the existing security of forest and green areas on the Bilmer Berg are taken into account in accordance with a harmonious coexistence of nature and business. A foot and cycle path network is intended to ensure mobility throughout the area and the development of the compensation areas can begin in parallel to infrastructure development.
Overall, Lüneburg shows up on a very good way in order to meet both the economic and community needs by opening up new perspectives for companies and at the same time does not lose sight of the living environment of the citizens. Lüneburg Aktuell reports that the city together with the Harburg district is actively working on the realization of these plans and the first steps can now be implemented in reality. In the past, the collaboration has proven itself several times-among other things through the "Elevator" accelerator for start-ups, and everyone involved is optimistic about the future.
let's look forward to what is coming: The Bilmer Berg II industrial area has the potential to become a real profit for the entire region.
