Vechta without new Corona cases: hopeful signal for everyone!
in the district of Vechta, Lower Saxony, the population may breathe a sigh of relief on June 14, 2025. Today, no new infection with the coronavirus was reported. This is a gratifying sign, cemented by the fact that no new cases have been registered in the past seven days. The current 7-day incidence is therefore 0.0 per 100,000 inhabitants. The entire district counts 91,497 positively tested persons, tragically 147 have lost their lives or with Covid-19 ( news.de , coronain-fahngen.de ).
The numbers are clearly gratifying: In the district of Vechta, the intensive care units are currently not occupied by COVID 19 patients. On June 13th, 13 of a total of 22 intensive care beds were occupied and 9 free. This means that the concern is compatible with an overload of intensive care medicine in the Vechta area. The endeavor to reduce the utilization of the intensive care beds is also evident nationwide: in Germany the utilization was around 74% in the last survey (as of November 14, 2022) ( Statista.com ).
Current Corona numbers in Lower Saxony
The age structures show interesting insights: The age groups of the 15-34-year-olds were particularly affected with 1,132,203 cases and the 35-59 year old with 1,526,437 cases. In comparison, the over 80-year-olds show with 179,726 cases that the older population still remains vulnerable.
The new variant nimbus
It looks like another factor that should be observed in connection with pandemic. The new Corona variant Nimbus, a modification of the omikron variant, was discovered in January 2025 and classified by the WHO in May 2025 as a "variant under observation". So far, however, there is no evidence of more difficult disease courses, which is a ray of hope in this situation.
With regard to the vaccination campaign, Lower Saxony shows progress: By April 8, 2023, 76.3% of the population were basic, while 77.9% are vaccinated at least once. A total of 188,244,457 vaccine doses were administered. A good hand in the vaccination strategy could prove to be crucial to keep the health situation stable.
