A joyful spectacle took place on Sunday in the baroque garden at Wolfsburg Castle: The “Kita singt” project celebrated its final event and brought together around 550 children from 28 daycare centers. Enthusiastic relatives and numerous visitors enjoyed the musical performances by the little ones, who performed together and thus focused on the joy of music. The “Kita sings” project is an initiative of the Wolfsburg Music School and has existed for 15 years. Monika Kiekenap, the head of m2K Wolfsburg, said she was happy about the collaboration with the daycare centers. This cooperation is usually perceived as very valuable because the teachers are actively involved in the preparation of the children and the rehearsals. The organizers support the daycare centers with a lot of commitment so that the children can come onto the stage optimally prepared.
A look into the future
Exciting events are already planned for next March: the daycare week and an open day at the municipal music school in Wolfsburg. Here, families can immerse themselves in the facility's musical offerings and discover their favorite instruments. The open day will be rounded off with a performance by the Kita Singt Band in the large hall and in the schoolyard. Wolfsburg.de emphasizes that the Kita-Singt team supports the local educators in order to promote singing and making music in the daycare centers from an early age.
But why is music so important for children? Children are receptive to musical sounds from birth and can hear their mother's voice during pregnancy. Music provides security and is an important form of communication between child and caregiver. The positive effects on memory, intelligence and social behavior are recognized and anchored in many education and upbringing plans. KUBI Online points out that more than 75% of parents regularly sing with their children, which is not only fun but also promotes early childhood development.
Additionally, research finds that access to musical activities often depends on parents' education level and socioeconomic status. This makes initiatives that make musical education accessible to all children, especially in daycare centers, all the more important. Over 17% of students in public music schools are children under the age of six, which shows that interest in early music education is constantly growing.
With so many inspiring projects and an exciting future for music education in Wolfsburg, one thing is clear: the city has a good knack for supporting the little talents of tomorrow and offering them a loving and creative environment.
