Together against hate: Antifa mobilizes for the CSD in Neumünster!
On July 5, 2025, Neumünster will be marked by anti-fascist resistance. Christopher Street Day (CSD) is confronted by the right-wing extremist NPD, which wants to spread its propaganda against LGBT communities on the same day. Under the motto “Together against the NPD march”, anti-fascist groups and queer activists are mobilizing for a rally that starts at 12 p.m. at the main train station in Neumünster. They will also travel together from Kiel, where they will meet at 11 a.m. at the main train station to make a strong voice against right-wing ideology. The NPD is planning a meeting for 12:30 p.m. at Neumünster train station, followed by a march through the city at 1 p.m.
“This event is important not only to take a stand against the NPD, but also to defend queer lifestyles,” explains a representative of the organizers. The background for this mobilization is the dramatic increase in anti-queer violence in recent years. In 2024 alone, the number of attacks increased by almost 50 percent compared to the previous year. Such developments make it clear that the protection of queer life cannot be taken for granted.
Fear and threats in the CSD context
The right-wing sentiments of the NPD are not only reflected in their agitation against “gender gaga”, but also through the instrumentalization of false narratives. According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the LGBTIQ movement is used as an enemy to spread its own racist and nationalist ideologies. In addition, right-wing groups are against diversity in sexual orientations and family models because they propagate heterosexuality as the “natural” family model.
According to the BKA, there were already 1,785 recorded crimes against LGBTIQ* people in 2023, which means an increase of around 50 percent compared to the previous year. These heinous acts include insults, violence and threats, although the number of unreported cases is significantly higher. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser is committed to pursuing anti-queer violence more consistently and creating good conditions for the safety of queer people.
A call for mobilization
The organizers of the rally on July 5th are calling for broad participation. “Every vote counts to stop the shift to the right and strengthen the visibility of queer people,” said the organizers. It's not just about protesting against the NPD, but rather about sending a clear message of solidarity and resistance to discrimination.
A specific incident that illustrates the current situation occurred in 2022, when a trans man died brutally during the CSD in Münster. The alarming rise in anti-queer attacks makes it clear that measures to protect the queer community are urgently needed.
The role of the police and other state institutions is also viewed critically. Many activists find these to be unreliable in protecting queer lifestyles. The case of Maja, a non-binary anti-fascist who was held in Hungary and was hoping for help from Germany, shows how weak the response to international attacks is.
On July 5th, Neumünster will be the venue for a strong signal against right-wing agitation and for the defense of diversity and self-determination. Come along and show that every person has the right to live the way they want - without fear of discrimination or violence!
