Segeberg wins a special price: E-Frosch convinces at Energie-Olympiad!

Norderstedt, Deutschland - in the Segeberg district is reason to be happy: the district won the special "Plietsch-Extra Clever idea" at the 2025 energy Olympics. This is associated with prize money of 2,500 euros. But what is behind this award? The goal of the Energy Olympiad, which was created by the Society for Energy and Climate Protection Schleswig-Holstein (EKSH), is the improvement of the infrastructure and transport offers as well as the reduction in the energy consumption of public facilities. With 72 applications from 41 municipalities, a new record was set up at this event, as reported Energy Olympiade.de.

What the jury ultimately convinced was the e-frog, a small electric cabin vehicle. This innovative vehicle was purchased two years ago with the EKSH funding for the School on Hasenstieg in Norderstedt. With total costs of around 9,300 euros, of which 5,000 euros came from the EKSH, the e-frog shows what climate-friendly mobility can look like in everyday life. The funding center pursues a learning concept that is organized in different locations, be it when shopping or on a riding stable. The e-frog is used to transport learning and play materials as well as aids and food.

much more than just one vehicle

The e-frog has a range of about 120 kilometers with a double battery and can be operated almost emission-free. While conventional combustion vehicles with a similar charging capacity emit 144 grams of CO2 per kilometer, the e-frog is a sustainable partner in mobility. A special feature is the photovoltaic module on the roof, which ensures almost self -sufficient use in the summer months. If the sun does not shine, the vehicle is charged with green electricity. The jury praised these characteristics and highlighted the e-frog as a sign of social participation and climate-friendly mobility. The award ceremony took place in Rendsburg, at the representative of the EKHSH and the climate protection manager of the Segeberg district.

With this success, the district of Segeberg shows how important the role of municipalities and counties is to implement national climate goals. According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, they make a significant contribution to recognizing the potential for energy savings and efficiency gains and implementing it in practice. Among other things, municipalities receive support from the creation of municipal energy and climate protection concepts. This is also crucial for the development of new strategies to reduce CO2 emissions and to promote sustainable solutions.

a competition with tradition

The Energy Olympiad has been an integral part of municipal competition for the best ideas for more energy efficiency since 2007. The current issue 2024/2025 not only raised the number of participants to 72, but also introduced new categories and prices. Minister Tobias Goldschmidt and EKSH managing director Frank Osterwald presented the awards to the winners. The efforts of the non -winning municipalities were also recognized, which underlines the importance of competition. The next round, the 13th edition, is planned for 2026/2027. Further information on the participating projects can be found in the final report at the Energy Olympiade.de.
