Palatinate Sports Museum in Hauenstein receives 49,800 euros in funding!

A new chapter for the Palatinate Sports Museum in Hauenstein is celebrated like a real “throw”! The Sportbund Pfalz e.V. receives funding of 49,800 euros from the Ministry of Family, Women, Culture and Integration for the redesign of the permanent exhibition. This measure represents a further step in the development of the museum, which opened its doors in 2011 in the German Schuhmuseum and addresses the exciting history of gymnastics and sport over a period of around 200 years. Treffpunkt-Pfalz reports that the overall investment for the year 2025 99,600 euros are estimated and the funding covers 50 percent of the costs. The other half is provided by donations and own funds.

A special highlight of the redesign is the expansion of the exhibition area: from the beginning 345 square meters, it will be 570 square meters in the future. From 2024, a versatile lecture area for around 50 people is also available. These are important steps to make the cultural importance of sport in the region more tangible.

The way to modernize

But you don't just wait for a breath of fresh air, the museum received a first thrust last year. With 32,725 euros, a first funding has already been redeemed. These money flow into the extensive renovation work, which extends over the entire upper floor of the German Schuhmuseum. The chairman of the Pfalz sports association, Rudolf Storck, and Managing Director Asmus Kaufmann received the funding to support the extensive measures with a ceremonial handover on October 15. Sportbund Pfalz informed that is accompanied by the Museumsverband Rheinland-Pfalz.

After the museum has been closed since the end of 2020, the closure demanded a lot of patience to everyone involved. But the anticipation for the reopening can hardly be higher. Not only the redesign is on the agenda, the museum's return to regional cultural events is also of great importance. The Sportbund Pfalz has set many important accents in regional sports and cultural history in recent years and plans to seamlessly linked with new special exhibitions, information events and symposia.

A look into the future

The Palatinate Sports Museum has shown in the past how much sport is part of our culture. The planning and preparation of the project alone shows that a lot is about here. The expansion and renovation work is to be completed in 2025. The goal is clear: a contemporary revision of the permanent exhibition, which enables the audience to literally experience the origin and development of gymnastics and sport. This positive development is not only thanks to the Sportbund Pfalz, but also the support of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, which is visible through the funding.

The Palatinate Sports Museum is therefore a contact point for all sports enthusiasts and cultural -interested people. With the fresh ideas and a clear concept for renewal, the museum once again plays a central role in the regional cultural scene. So we can be excited to see what awaits us in a new guise!
