Construction work in Wesenberg: Severely disabled man fights for access!

In Ahrensberg near Wesenberg, the residents are facing major challenges. Due to the renovation of the local thoroughfare, many of them only have limited access to their properties. Hartmut Wiedbusch, a severely disabled pensioner who lives on “Alte Havel” street, is particularly affected. Wiedbusch relies on his car to get to doctor's appointments and do shopping. The situation becomes even more critical because the nursing service has to come to him in a vehicle every day.

The situation is particularly precarious because traffic on Weinbergstrasse has already been completely blocked. For Wiedbusch and the other residents, this means that access to their streets is severely restricted. A ring canal currently has to be dug, which further complicates the accessibility of the “Alte Havel” road for vehicles. In an emergency, the fire brigade and rescue services can only get to the houses on foot, which can cost valuable time in an emergency situation. In addition, the rescue helipad is blocked by residents' vehicles, which makes the situation even worse.

Authorities in focus

Frank Wiedbusch, Hartmut Wiedbusch's son, sharply criticized the authorities. In his answer, however, Mayor Steffen Rißmann (CDU) evades any responsibility and explains that the building authority cannot react to abstract dangers. The closure of the “Alte Havel” residential road was originally supposed to take place earlier, but was not scheduled until July 7th. Rißmann describes the situation as unfortunate, but emphasizes that they could not find any other solution. These statements increase the outrage of residents and raise questions about planning and communication.

The construction work is being carried out by the Strabag company. Emergency services and fire departments in the area were regularly informed about the construction phases, and a rendezvous procedure was agreed with the management group of the Neustrelitz Land office. In urgent emergencies, the fire brigade and rescue service can access the construction site in order to be able to act quickly.

Problematic construction projects

The Ahrensburg fire department and the THW technical advisor carried out an inspection and quickly installed four new support pillars so that the residents could enter the building again. The operation lasted around 90 minutes, during which time the Nordstrandring was blocked by emergency vehicles.

These incidents highlight the need to rethink the framework for construction projects and their impact on residents. In particular, the implementation of the Disability Equality Act of 2016, which is intended to promote barrier-free construction, needs to be given greater focus. The guidelines for barrier-free construction provide valuable guidance for planners and building administrations and could help to make facilities and streets accessible to everyone leitfadenbarrierfreebuilding.de is described.

Overall, it is clear that there is an urgent need for action in both Ahrensberg and Ahrensburg to ensure safety and accessibility for all residents. The challenges must be addressed as quickly as possible to prevent further inconveniences or even dangerous situations.
