Tiny house settlement by the lake: Neustrelitz's green living of the future!

An exciting wave of sustainable living is sweeping across Neustrelitz: the “Domjüch Tiny House Quarter” is being built on the site of the former state insane asylum. The “ZukunftWagen” association launched the 2023 initiative and is pursuing a forward-looking project that focuses not only on ecological but also social aspects. SVZ reports that a decisive draft resolution will be submitted to the city council in September of this year in order to initiate the development plan process.

With 15 parking spaces for tiny houses that are a maximum of 2.5 meters wide, 4 meters high and 7 meters long, the association focuses on a dynamic and movable form of living. These tiny houses are not only space-saving, but also sustainable, because each resident receives a piece of land that they can cultivate themselves. To further promote sustainable living, trial accommodation options are offered and tourist use is also planned at two parking spaces. Amelious activities such as collecting herbs or tree climbing for children are intended to strengthen the community.

The benefits of tiny house living

The trend towards tiny houses is particularly popular in Germany. A survey by Interhyp shows that 90% of Germans value environmental protection and saving energy, and 13% would consider a tiny house. More and more people want to live ecologically and sustainably in their own four walls. Building biology emphasizes that ecological aspects play a central role in real estate planning. With a reduced material requirement of only 10-20% compared to traditional single-family homes and negligible CO2 emissions, the tiny house movement becomes an attractive alternative.

The ecological benefits cannot be neglected: from efficient water consumption, which is up to 50% less, to the use of sustainable materials - the aspects of tiny house living demonstrate impressive sustainability. This not only means that residents consume and produce less waste, but also that they can actively contribute to environmental protection. Tiny House Info highlights that many residents maintain a minimalist lifestyle that emphasizes quality over quantity.

A look into the future

But what does the future of the project in Neustrelitz look like? The first reports, such as the species protection report, are currently being prepared and should be available in September 2023. The statutory resolution on the final implementation of the development plan is not expected until the third quarter of 2026 at the earliest. The city community is open-minded and interested, but the implementation of the plans remains exciting.

In the tiny house community, not only resource-saving construction and heating are important, the social dimension and support for different living concepts are also important. This innovative form of living could not only contribute to the creation of living space, but also raise awareness of community coexistence and bring new forms of living into being.
