Pasewalk becomes hydrogen hotspot: major project starts 2025!

In Pasewalk, a lot is happening in the area of hydrogen economy. The company ENERGRAGE recently signed an area purchase contract for the construction of a pioneering hydrogen plant in the Berlin-Szczecin industrial park. IWR reports that the contract for a 6.5 hectare is on June 24, 2025 came about and the work of one of the first large-scale hydrogen works in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be.

Why is that important? The expansion of the hydrogen economy has become increasingly important in the course of the energy transition and the increasing need for climate -friendly energy sources. Ener yield plans to install an electrolyse output of 60 MW in the first stage of expansion, which is supposed to produce around 6,000 tons of green hydrogen year for year. In the future, the capacity could even be expanded to up to 180 MW.

a future -oriented project

The hydrogen plant in Pasewalk will not only be important locally, but will also integrate into the future German hydrogen core network. The initial nature conservation measures, such as the construction of a reptile protection fence, are already scheduled for August 2025. The complete approval process should be completed in the first half of 2026, so that the start of construction for 2027 and commissioning is planned by 2029.

In a further step, ENERRAGE received the funding notice for the IPCEI project "Electrolysis Corridor East Germany" in July 2024. As this project includes an electrolysis capacity of 185 mw at two locations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. A total of around 15,000 tons of hydrogen are to be fed into the pipeline annually, which not only contributes to security of supply, but will also promote local added value in structurally weak regions.

part of the big strategy

The initiative is part of the IPCEI funding program (Important Projects of Common European Interest), which includes a total of seven EU member states. The European Commission Hydrogen infrastructure approved and thus released billions of public funds for projects such as this. The aim is to reduce the dependence on natural gas and to support the decarbonization of the economy.

The strategic positioning of the energets locations in sparsely populated regions contributes to the use of renewable surplus current and supports the development of a stable hydrogen pipeline infrastructure. This is crucial for sustainable security of supply in the future.

All in all, the project in Pasewalk shows that the future of hydrogen in Germany is tangible. With the expansion of the hydrogen economy and the associated grants, the fact that you have a good knack for innovative energy solutions that make you make both ecologically and economic sense.
