Focus: Alarming inventory in MV!
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Deutschland - The Rebhuhn stock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remains sad news for nature lovers. Despite the intensive efforts to protect this strongly endangered species, the annual inventory of 2024 shows that the population does not recover. According to the information from NDR is the decline of the vineyards in the region. While around 50,000 breeding pairs are currently estimated throughout Germany, the numbers for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are not yet available.
The inventory has been carried out annually since 2017 and is subject to the coordination of the umbrella organization of German Avifaunists. By the end of March, volunteers record the stocks, counting in over 200 locations in the country. Interestingly, loudspeakers are used to encourage the birds to answer. But too this year, too, a sound in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania rarely came back from the protected animals.
habitat and conditions
An important reason for the disappearance of the vineyards is the lack of habitat. This species requires small -scale landscapes full of hedges and seed -rich areas. The current statistical value of 0.68 vineyards per examined area shows that the population has been declining for years and that recovery does not seem to be in sight. While the first signs of stabilization were shown in 2011, there was a drastic decline again since 2022.
But not only in Germany the situation is dark. The vineyard population has decreased across Europe since 1980 by terrifying 94 percent. In Germany, the vineyard in the red list of breeding birds is classified as "very endangered". These alarming developments have initiatives such as the project "save vineyards - promote diversity!" led under the direction of various partners such as the German Association for Landscape Care and the Georg August University Göttingen. The project, which is promoted by Federal Office for Nature Conservation , aims to improve your level
outlook on protection and the future
The project started in April 2021 and has a term of two years by March 2023. With a financial volume of 896,000 euros, work is made to promote biodiversity in the agricultural landscapes and to stop the decline in the vineyards. The partridge shows an example of how effective protective measures can be positively influenced not only this bird, but also other species in the agricultural landscape.
Fortunately, there are numerous committed volunteers who contribute to data collection through regular inventory. But the living environment for the vineyards urgently has to improve in order to stop their decline in inventory and maybe even bring about a positive turn. In view of the urgent problem, innovative solutions and a stronger focus on partridge protection are essential so that it can continue to mean in the future: "There is still something to do!"Details | |
