Great help: 1404 solidarity bread for Brazil's street children!
On November 7th, 2025, the atmosphere at the Don Bosco Catholic School in Rostock was unique. Students applauded enthusiastically when the result of the exciting solidarity bread campaign was announced. In the last few weeks, the children have diligently helped to raise an impressive sum of 1222 euros for the Misereor project “Brazil: Help for Street Children”. This initiative was made possible thanks to the great support of the Sparre bakery, which sold rustic chia spelled bread for over a month in Rostock and Bad Doberan.
What was special about this campaign was not only the financial aspect, but also the commitment of the students. From preparation to creating posters to tasting and promoting the breads, the children were involved in the entire process. Each loaf sold contributed 50 cents to the donation box. The Sparre bakery has also promised to round up the amount collected and plans to offer the solidarity bread again to enable even more support measures for the street children in Brazil.
A strong sign of social responsibility
This campaign is not only an example of the students' willingness to help, but also a strong sign of social responsibility. All too often, young people are so caught up in the reality of their lives that awareness of the plight of others fades into the background. However, the Don Bosco School has proven that even children can make a significant contribution. They were able to share their knowledge about the situation of street children in Brazil and raise awareness among adults and their peers.
Social commitment is necessary and in demand, and the community shows that we can achieve a lot together. As Niklas Luhmann stated in his definition of the concept of society, such actions are the expression of a specifically complex “social system”. Although the adjective “social” comes from the French “social” and the Latin “socialis”, it is still important today for everyone who wants to take care of their fellow human beings.
A look into the future
With the initiative, the Don Bosco School not only collected money for a relevant project, but also weaved social networks that go beyond Rostock. By supporting Brazilian street children, the school shows how to address social challenges through helpfulness and courage. One can only hope that this positive development will not be the last of its kind, and not just at this school. By sharing their experiences, children can spread the importance of social engagement.
Great attention deserves not only the great commitment of the Sparre bakery, which not only supported the community with its campaign, but also through the offer of rustic bread, which was able to attract many people. Solidarity sells well, and campaigns like this make the bakery not just a place to sell, but a social meeting place for everyone.
In summary, one can say: The Don Bosco School's solidarity bread campaign is a shining example of the connection between children in Rostock and those who are struggling with challenges far away. It shows that good deeds know no limits and that each individual can make a difference. Archdiocese of Hamburg reports on this important initiative, which shows that you can achieve great things even through small steps.
In order to further promote this form of social commitment, it is hoped that similar projects will soon be implemented in other schools and communities. This is a good way to raise awareness of social responsibility.
