A resin recently drew attention to the unsightly sights on the Internet by dividing disturbing images of illegal garbage deposits in a Facebook group.

What do the photos show? Two unsightly garbage bags on the side of the road and a laundry basket with a chair in the stream - scenes that do not exactly contribute to the beauty of the traditional place. The resident expresses her displeasure with the behaviors of some people who apparently do not take into account the environment with their garbage.

The illegal disposal of garbage not only represents a nuisance for the residents, but also applies as an administrative offense or even an environmental impact. According to the Environmental Office depend on the legal consequences of the individual case and can comprise fines or imprisonment of up to five years. These laws are strict and are intended to ensure that the environment remains protected. Because the unloading of garbage can not only damage water, but also negatively influence floors and the entire ecology.

Current figures on environmental crime

Environmental crime is a serious topic in Germany. A report of the ecologic institute shows that the number of well -known environmental kicks decreased easily: from 21,546 cases in 2010 to 2020. In 2021, the registered cases then rose to 20,625 again. This may look like a positive development, but as soon as you take a closer look, it becomes clear that the decline is related to many factors, including a high number of unreported cases. The clarification rate of environmental crimes is between 56 % and 62 % and was therefore slightly higher than the overall crime rate in Germany.

It is particularly frightening that in 2020 about 38 % of the environmental crimes were related to animal welfare, followed by an unauthorized handling of waste and water contamination. These types of offenses represent a significant part of environmental crime and illustrate the urgency with which society and the authorities have to act.
