ZDF television service: Advent joy from the Bethlehem Church!

On December 21, 2025, the fourth Advent, a very special event will take place in the Evangelical Lutheran Bethlehem Church in Linden. The ZDF television service will be broadcast live from 9:25 a.m. and the anticipation is already palpable. Admission starts at 9:00 a.m. so that everyone can be at their seats in time to experience something up close together.

On average, over 668,000 viewers tune in when it says: “We celebrate church service!” This special atmosphere not only attracts people who cannot attend on site; For many people, the broadcast is also an opportunity to bring Advent into their own four walls. Dr. Rebekka Brouwer, superintendent, will give the sermon. She receives support from Pastor Meret Köhne, editor Marcella Klaas and the editors Sebastian Lippe and Frank Bredthauer. The service will be musically led by church musician Jürgen Begemann and the brass group of the Bethlehem congregation, and the young choir of the Hanover Boys' Choir under the direction of Michael Jäckel will also give their best.

Together in faith

The ZDF television service has a long tradition and is one of the oldest programs on German television. Year after year it is broadcast regularly from various regions of Germany as well as from German communities abroad. On average, around 800,000 people watch the broadcasts, which illustrates the high importance of these services. The services, which come from Protestant, Catholic or even once a year from Orthodox communities, thrive on the diversity of the churches and their traditions. This presence helps many who may no longer be able to come to church themselves to still take part in church events.

Like Dr. Brouwer emphasizes that creating such a significant format requires enormous support and organization. The goal of the project is clear: “We want to bring Advent into many living rooms.” Spectator telephones are also activated so that no one is left unattended. These are available until 6 p.m. and are coordinated by Heike Bickmann.

The Ten Commandments and their meaning

At a time when many are longing for support and orientation, the Ten Commandments are gaining in importance again. The First Commandments teach the importance of honoring God and keeping the holidays holy. It follows that values and moral principles still play an important role today. The Lutheran and Roman Catholic traditions enjoy great popularity and bring the commandments into focus, while different counts in other Christian traditions are a topic of conversation.

It is a valuable opportunity to reflect and deepen your own faith. Whether young or old, the ability to engage with these principles remains timeless and relevant. Not only the church, but also the community can benefit from these values.

So enjoy the Advent celebrations and be part of this important event on December 21st in Bethlehem Church. Watch how faith, community and traditions come together to enlighten all of our hearts.
