Heat crisis in Lower Saxony: Hildesheim cut off catastrophic!

The heat wave is a problem for many German cities, and German Environmental Aid (DUH) has now carried out a comprehensive heat test, which illuminates the situation in 190 locations with more than 50,000 inhabitants. Unfortunately, many cities do badly in terms of heat -related health security. Hildesheim received an anything but satisfactory assessment, while Lingen emerged as a positive example in Lower Saxony. But what does that mean for the people in these cities?

Overall, the heat check 2025 shows that more than 12 million people in Germany live in areas that are exposed to extreme heat loads. Cities such as Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Worms are particularly affected, where between 88 and 91 percent of the population live in heavily loaded regions. In Lower Saxony, on the other hand, Lingen occupies an excellent fourth place in the federal comparison with a high proportion of green space and a low degree of sealing. In contrast, Hildesheim has fewer good cards with an average surface temperature of 36 degrees in summer and high sealing, as the analysis of the DUH shows. news38.de reports that Oldenburg and Nordhorn also have a lot of green, but still has a need for action.

The demands for more green and heat action plans

The DUH recommends that binding minimum green parts to be introduced on land and in public space. Administrations everywhere in the country are asked to provide drinkable solutions such as drinking wells to provide faster help. A long -term plan to create additional green areas is also essential. Hildesheim in particular faces a challenge here: In order to be able to react better to heat, timely investments are necessary.

But there is not only the need for action in Lower Saxony. Climate change generally ensures that it is getting hotter and hotter in the cities. Heavy rain and drought are no longer uncommon. In order to counteract this, urban development and construction must be comprehensively adapted, according to the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB). bmwsb emphasizes the need to remove the urban greenery and reinforce the living environment and the water retention.

The role models Lingen and Wilhelmshaven

While Lingen and Wilhelmshaven are considered positive examples in which new approaches to combat the heat load were taken, other cities such as Hildesheim are increasingly under pressure. In order to meet the requirements of the future, innovative ideas are required. This also includes the creation of shady "climate oases" and the increase in the inner -city green areas to help the cold air balance of the cities.

Probably knowing that around 3,000 people die in Germany in Germany every year, the DUH calls on citizens to actively persuade their cities to implement heat protection measures. In order to tackle these problems in the long term, close cooperation between the municipality and the population will be essential. This shows the way to a greener future - so that the cities remain worth living even in the brooding heat.
