Available now in the Facebook mobile app, this innovative login technology replaces traditional passwords that are often vulnerable to attacks. In the future, users will be able to identify themselves with biometric data such as facial recognition or fingerprint sensors or simply use their device PIN. This not only makes logging in easier, but also more secure.
The technical background of this revolutionary method is based on an asymmetric cryptography process developed by the FIDO Alliance was standardized. With the introduction of FIDO2, Apple, Google and Microsoft have already introduced broad support for passwordless logins in their systems in 2022. The term 'passkey' was adopted by the FIDO Alliance in 2023 for all FIDO credentials.
