Mother's pension 2025: Get up to 118 euros per child!
There is exciting news for mothers preparing for retirement in northern Germany. From July 1, 2025, the mother's pension will be increased, which is particularly important for parents of children born before 1992. As the German Pension Insurance Oldenburg-Bremen highlighted in its current report on nord24, the recognition of child-rearing periods will be increased to three pension points, which corresponds to around 118 euros per month.
Currently, children born after 1992 are already entitled to three pension points, while for older age groups only 2.5 points are currently credited. From July 2025, however, these will also be adjusted to three points. This is pleasing because mothers then receive additional financial support in order to adequately reward the time spent raising children.
Actively apply for mother’s pension
An important point to note: The mother's pension must be actively applied for and is not automatically taken into account in the pension information. You can easily apply for it online using form V0800 from the German Pension Insurance. It is also recommended that the application be submitted when the youngest child is ten years old. In this way, all child-rearing times can be recorded in the best possible way.
But why is that important? It's quite simple: taking into account the time spent raising children up to the tenth birthday can increase your personal income in terms of pension law. This offers an additional 92 euros per month, which can have a positive effect as you get older.
Parenting times and credits
There is also good news for children born before 1992: From January 1, 2027, mother's pension III will be introduced, which will also recognize up to 36 months of parenting time. This means that parents can have up to half a year more parenting time credited for these children, which pays off with half a pension point (currently 20.40 euros). It should be clear what financial impulses this can have for many mothers and fathers.
It should be noted that parents can divide the time spent raising children among themselves. This means that fathers also have the opportunity to benefit from the mother's pension, provided they apply for parental leave with a joint declaration.
Offers of help and advice
With all of these options, it can be helpful to get support with the application. The German Pension Insurance advice centers in Bremerhaven are available to provide advice and support. Here you can receive support both by telephone and in person after making an appointment. In addition, insurance history and pension information should be checked regularly to ensure that all pension points are recorded correctly and that no one misses anything.
The mother's pension is an important issue that affects many northern German families and the upcoming changes will certainly provide positive financial relief for many. Current developments in the area of pension insurance should therefore be followed with due attention.
