The shipping industry in northern Germany is facing a significant change: from October 1, 2025, A.P. Moller – Maersk will replace its existing PIN-based release system for import containers in the seaports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven with a new digital process called “secure release order”. With this innovation, Maersk aims to increase security and traceability in the supply chains. From now on, only one traceable party will be authorized to collect full import containers at any given time. Digitalization in port operations

The new system will be implemented via the “German Ports” community platform, which is already used by various terminal operators. This platform provides a standardized and secure approach to handling approvals and will help make the entire process more efficient.
