Protective measures and social perception
The incident once again raises questions about safety on public transport. According to a study by the Federal Criminal Police Office, women in particular feel unsafe, which means that more than half of them avoid using public transport at night. These concerns are also reflected in the increasing numbers of violent crimes. The number of violent acts at German train stations increased from 2023 to 202425,640 to 27,160. But despite these efforts, the feeling of insecurity among travelers remains, leading to discussions about possible women's compartments in public transport.
Investigations underway
According to the police, investigations into the background to the incident are ongoing. No details have yet been released about the perpetrator's possible motives. There are reports of indications that passengers or possibly even a member of the Bundeswehr were involved in subduing the attacker, but this has not yet been confirmed.
